2023 BMW 3 Series It’s almost four years since the BMW 3 Series G20 made its global debut. I’m sure he’ll be reintroducing himself soon with a series of updates.
Present as a Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) model, aka a facelift. Even this can be proven because BMW was caught testing the G20 wrapped in camouflage at the Nurburgring Circuit.
As in the tradition of BMW’s LCI, it is likely that major changes can be seen in the muzzle and buttocks. Exactly what BMW covered up in this testing phase. Don’t worry about being weird, it doesn’t look like the manufacturer will introduce a radical revision. As far as minimal changes, at least it can be expected that way.
For example, on the front facade. Reflecting on the apron arrangement, there is no direction to the eccentric muzzle of the 4 Series or the M3 model.
This suggests a normal dimensional grille. If there is a minimal change, it doesn’t expand too much and then it is decorated with different interpretations of the patron bars.
However, one thing is a little bit annoying because behind the wrapper you can see a horizontal dotted strip instead of a vertical one. Maybe part of the camouflage, but maybe not.
Apart from that, imagine also rearranging the innards of the lamp as is commonly found on the LCI model. It looks to be playing the new DRL graphics on the front while the rear might not differ that much.
Judging from the photo, a visual translation of the L lamp similar to the existing model is still being found. One big difference is evident at the stern, namely the installation of the trapezoidal tailpipe.
When the exterior may not stray too far, it’s a different story in the interior. There is a probability of a major revision being executed. Although there have been no leaks, the refinement of the iDrive 8.0 infotainment system should be brought along with a bigger screen.
It will be competitive ammunition if BMW dares to throw a dashboard with a wide screen like the i4. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is now preparing a sophisticated and sophisticated screen game like the S-Class.
I don’t know what adjustments are made in the kitchen runway sector, but in this section it looks quite varied.
Manufacturers have prepared various alternatives ranging from a conventional four-cylinder 2,000 cc turbo engine, a 3,000 cc turbo six-cylinder engine to the Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) electrification model.
But that’s not all, the choice will increase by one model under the auspices of the BMW i sub-brand. So the EV option because it is also known that they are developing an electric version of the 3er.
The development process has surfaced, now we just have to wait for its presence. For the conventional model itself, 2022 may be introduced as output 2023.
2023 BMW 3 Series: New BMW 3 Series 2023
The updated BMW 3 Series has been spotted testing in both the saloon and Tourign estate, with the test car photographed in a body-disguising vinyl wrap.
The 3 Series has now been on sale for a number of years, although with the launch of the new Mercedes C-Class, it’s likely BMW is gearing up to give the 3 Series some of its own upgrades.

The BMW 3 Series has so far escaped the giant Marmite grille of the 4 Series, and it looks like the new car will avoid that fate as well.
Underneath the camouflage is a tweaked front bumper along with a new set of headlights.
There’s nothing new to report on the side of the car, but the rear of the BMW 3 Series will likely get a few tweaks if camouflage is something to do with it.
The new Touring Series 3 has also been spotted being tested. It gets all the same visual updates as the sedan up front, as well as a new rear bumper.

2023 BMW 3 Series Refresh
Renderings Of BMW 3 Series 2023 The 3 Series will get the usual mid-cycle LCI refresh treatment, which will bring several updates to the same face. But those updates will be minimal.
One of the more unique design elements of the G20 3er is the headlight design. With a notch at the bottom, the headlights are reminiscent of the E46 . Also, the kidney grilles don’t appear to have changed much, so they’ll maintain a non-aggressive design.
When the BMW 3 Series gets the LCI treatment, it will make an already good looking car a little bit better.
BMW has been spotted testing a prototype for the updated 3-Series.
The update is a mid-cycle refresh for the current 3 Series that first arrived in 2018 as a 2019 model. In BMW’s tradition we should see the updated car arrive in 2022 as the 2023 model.
The current 3 Series, the G20 generation, is already a handsome car and thankfully BMW isn’t going to mess with its design. It looks like there will be some minor changes to the interior of the headlights, along with new grille inserts and new fascia at the front and rear.
A more substantial update is pegged to the interior where we will see BMW introduce an updated version of its iDrive infotainment system.
The latest system, version 8.0, features a larger screen and may see the 3-Series dashboard revised to match the one in the new i4 2022 power hatch (shown below).
Speaking of electric vehicles, the updated 3-Series will feature its own electric options, possibly with the i3. The prototype for the electric 3-Series has been spotted.
Expect it to match the i4 specs, meaning an 83.9 kilowatt-hour battery and a maximum range of close to 300 miles.
It’s unclear what’s available for the existing lineup of 3-Series powertrains. The base option in the US should continue to be the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 rated at around 248 hp.
On top of this there should be a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine producing around 382 hp, this time coupled with a mild hybrid system that temporarily adds 11 hp. Both feature powertrains in the updated 2022 X3.
The M3 should receive many of the changes pegged to the regular 3-Series, though don’t expect its powertrain to be changed. The current M3 has a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-6 engine that makes 473 hp in standard mode and 503 hp in M3 Competition mode.
Sales of sedans may be on the decline but the 3 Series remains a vital model in the BMW lineup. Here in the US, cars still average over 40,000 sales per year.
2023 BMW 3 Series Sedan
How time passed. The BMW 3 Series G20 generation debuted almost three years ago at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
BMW usually follows a set of rhythms when it comes to the most important models: debuting a new car, then three years later updating it. If this leaked image is any indication, then it looks like the G20 3 Series will follow this trend.
As you’d expect by now, it’s the same old story as the grille—bigger, but at least not as big as its Series 4 counterpart.
Additionally, the headlights appear to have been reworked, with the daytime running lights moving above the main beam. There are also new, more aggressive side intakes, and the front bumper seems to benefit from a much deeper chin.
The car in these images is likely an updated M340i variant, though we’re not sure if it will retain that particular name when silk is officially pulled from the 2023 model year sedan (BMW likes to mess with its alphanumeric nomenclature with dizzying frequencies).
Note the car’s mirrors that look a lot like the M, the sporty graphics along the sides, and (since the trunk happens to be open) the lip spoiler on the trunk lid.
We expect the latest version of the Series 3 to come with other knick-knacks in it as well. BMW’s latest iteration of the iDrive has made its way to the i4 and iX electric vehicles, and will likely appear in the updated 3 Series. A simplified center console and larger screen will likely make the Inside 3 a better place to spend time.
The BMW 3 Series has, for some time, been the benchmark for compact luxury sedans. But competition continued to intensify, and BMW has since lost its iron grip on the segment’s crown.
In fact, there are half a dozen other cars in the same class that we prefer over the Bimmer. Can this upcoming refresh save legacy 3? Only time will tell.
2023 BMW 3 Series Facelift
The BMW 3 Series is set for a facelift for the upcoming 2023 model, and that makes sense, given all the updates and new options available on other BMW models.
This spy shot captures the Series 3 in minimal disguise, mostly trying to hide the front and rear of the sedan. There seems to be a new light cluster featuring modified ‘angel eyes’, the nickname for the quirky daytime running lights.
The grille will also get a slightly different look, compared to the current Series 3; the size looks similar, but the shape has been modified a bit.
According to Spies, as well as Carscoops, the interior will undergo the biggest changes, starting with the design of the center console, as well as an upgraded infotainment center.
It will also include iDrive 7.0, a recently made addition to the BMW iX, too.
BMW plans to electrify half of its SUV, sedan, and Mini models by 2030, with 25 EV models coming by 2023. As for the new 3 Series powertrain, the all-electric i3 version isn’t far out of reach.
Until that is confirmed, we can expect that the current range of gas and plug-in hybrids will continue to be used and improved.
Series 3 currently includes the plug-in-hybrid 330e; and the 330e xDrive sedan. The 2.0L turbocharged four produces 184 hp, with the electric motor adding another 113 hp.
The combined output is 288 hp with 310 lb-ft of torque. The 330e is rear-wheel drive but all other models, hybrid and ICE, are AWD.

2023 BMW 3 Series LCI
Just yesterday, some leaked photos were released, showing off the new LCI facelift for the BMW 3 Series G20. While the changes don’t seem drastic, and the car in the photos lacks a grille, the changes are definitely noticeable and, more importantly, can make or break the look of the G20.
Now after we see the leaked photos, will the BMW 3 Series LCI 2023 look better or worse than the current car?
In the photo, we see the front end of the LCI G20 without any camouflage but the grille is missing, so all we see is the outline.
The grille itself can drastically change the look of the car once installed, but even without the grille, we can still get a good idea of what it will look like.
From what we know, the grille won’t look drastically different from the current car. They will still join in the middle and be roughly the same size and shape. Sure, the insert could change, but it doesn’t seem to have changed much. Which is a good thing.
We asked the question which BMW has the best kidney grille a while back and most of our readers agreed with us that the G20 3 Series has the best BMW grille to date. So keeping them the same, or at least similar, is a good idea.
For the headlights, it’s a bit different on LCI cars. The current G20 3 Series has a small notch at the bottom of its headlights, similar to the E46 3 Series’ notch lamp.
It’s a design touch that some fans really like, while others don’t. The notch is missing in the LCI headlights, which appear to have been replaced with solid headlights. They still look good but they lose some of the character that current pre-LCI cars have.
Another interesting thing is that the car in the leaked photo appears to be an M340i, judging by its M-style side mirrors.
But the lower front bumper isn’t very sporty and looks like it’s from a lower model. Of course, it might be a pre-prototype test mule, so having a mismatched body panel is completely normal.
But does it really look better or worse than current cars? Maybe only time will tell, but for now, I feel like the current pre-LCI cars look better.
Its notched headlights look special and unique and set it apart from the rest of the lineup. Though, I understand that some fans prefer the more subtle headlights of the newer LCI cars.
2023 BMW 3 Series EV
2023 BMW 3 Series Electric Unless you live in China. The early leaks from Asia gave us some insight into BMW’s plans for the market.
The BMW 3 Series electric sedan has been rumored for years, but this is the first time we’ve seen its final design. If the naming convention is a bit odd – considering that BMW is still producing the i3 hatchback – the design isn’t.
The China-only BMW i3 Sedan is based on the G20 3 Series and as you’d expect, looks a lot like a conventional powered sedan. The car is apparently named BMW i3 35L which means long wheelbase.
No specifications available at this time. But one thing is almost certain: the BMW i3 (3 Series electric) seems to be aimed only at the Chinese market.
2023 BMW 3 Series Interior
But until then, the popular Series 3 still has a few tricks up its sleeve. And it will start in the cabin.
We can confirm today that the BMW 3 Series LCI will get an infotainment update that will consist of two large LCD screens – similar to the i4 – and of course, the iDrive 8.
The wide 14.9-inch, 200 ppi, ultra-high resolution display features bright, colorful graphics that are easy to spot, and the home screen is made up of large, vibrant tiles that are clearer and easier to understand than ever before.
The screen itself curves towards the driver, to evoke the tilted dashboard of the old BMW.
Not only does it curve towards the driver for easier touch screen ergonomics but it also incorporates the 12.3-inch instrument panel, for a more harmonious display.
Behind the instrument panel, we’ll likely also find a new heads-up display that aligns with the dashboard, making it almost completely hidden from view.
As seen on the i4, the graphics displayed on the windshield, right in front of the driver, are much better, clearer, and more intuitive.

BMW 3 Series 2023 Engine
A midlife facelift for any BMW usually means an updated engine, and the new 3 Series will likely follow a similar pattern.
You can expect the return of petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrids with slightly more power and perhaps mild hybrid assistance for the four-cylinder petrol units (the current range already offers mild hybrid systems on both diesel and petrol six-cylinder engines).
Current power output ranges from 184hp to 374hp – new cars should have an equally powerful range of engines.
The electric BMW i3 Saloon will likely arrive at some point, but don’t expect it to come as part of this facelift.
BMW 3 Series 2023 Powertrain
Just like the current model, the BMW 3 Series Facelift will rely on a combination of gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. We don’t expect big changes this year in the engine department.
The entry-level model will continue to be the 318i (non-US model) and the top variants will be the M340i and M340d (non-US model).
The road to full electrification is via a plug-in hybrid and BMW will continue to offer the 320e and 330e models.
The former uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor, while the second uses a 3.0-six-cylinder unit also with an electric unit. Only the BMW 330e is slated for the US market.
2023 BMW 3 Series Release Date
The launch of the BMW 3 Series Facelift is just a few months away. The updated midsize and touring sedan will go into production in July 2022 and will continue through 2025 (sedan) and 2026 (touring).
The 3 series we know will be replaced by the NK (Neue Klasse) generation which is an electric-focused platform.
2023 BMW 3 Series Price
Expect to see official confirmation of the new BMW 3 Series in early 2022, with sales starting later this year.
Prices are likely to take a bit of a knock on the outgoing car – which can fetch from £32,595 as a sedan or £34,430 for a ‘Touring’ estate.
