2022 BMW 5 Series If quiet luxury and handsome style are the top priorities of your new car, the BMW 5 2022 sedan could be the answer.
Its luxurious, spacious cab is a great place to spend your trip, and BMW offers several powertrain options to suit your needs, be it fuel efficiency or the roaring performance of the V-8.
A facelift for 2021 features a sharper exterior styling that provides a more luxurious 5-series appearance, and some technological upgrades should keep it up in the fight against major rivals such as the Audi A6, Genesis G80, and Mercedes-Benz E-class.
Along with a visual refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 BMW 5 series offers a new 48-volt hybrid powertrain, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system, and enhanced driver assistance features.

2022 BMW 5 Series Review
BMW is leaking like water through a filter as of late, and leaked photos of the new 2022 Series 2 coupe and the new iX3 crossover hit the internet this week.
And now BMW has another new model launched before its official debut: the 5-Series 2022. That’s according to a post on the BMW Bimmerpost fan forum.
When the current 5-Series G30 was released it didn’t look much different from the cars that came before it. Fun fact: BMW calls the mid-cycle upda48-volt”Lifecycle Impulse”.
We’ll stick with the term facelift, and it looks like the facelift made to the exterior of the upcoming 2022 BMW 5 series brings the styling of the model much more in line with that of the current 3 Series.
Seen here in the form of a 530e petrol-electric hybrid, this refreshed Series 5 appears to sport the front bumper of the M-Sport package and a new set of multi-spoke wheels.
Missing from the car’s design is hints of four circular headlights. Instead, this model adopts a “double hockey stick” daytime running light.
Please note, this is a leak from the European spec car, which means that there may be some changes that separate this model from the North American spec model.
One thing that is unlikely to change is the updated 5 grille size. That’s great because unlike the other Bimmer, the facelifted Series 5 grille looks the same size as the one affixed to the current car.
Maybe BMW is listening to our complaints.
The new 5-er also has fresh taillights and might get an update to the cabin too. Updates to the infotainment settings, some new technology, and possibly an update on the powertrain and suspension are all available for the mid-size BMW sedan.
We won’t know for sure until BMW completely unwraps it. Until then you can look at these photos and decide for yourself whether you like the new look of the car or not.
2022 BMW 5 Series Redesign
BMW will keep an eye on its five-series simple and comprehensive facelift to steal the attention of a slightly more aggressive Mercedes E-Class and a fresh Audi A6.
The product line, which will be launched in mid-2020 as a 2021 model, will consist of 248 horsepower 530i, 335 horsepower 540i, 523 horsepower M550i, and plug-in hybrid 288 horsepower 530e.
All models will continue to be available with optional rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, called xDrive, except the AWD-specific M550i xDrive.
The more powerful M5 will be updated in the not too distant future, reflecting the change to this model of the 5 Series pedestrian series.
At first glance, the 2022 BMW 5 series facelift looks more square and slightly anarchist, its LED headlights have sharp folds.
The distinctive radiator mask also looks more pronounced, while the headlights get an L-shaped lighting element, the same elements have now disappeared from the taillights.
Exhaust pipes now look the same regardless of the engine – leave a badge, everyone!
Taller and wider, the new kidney grids strengthen their affinity with the 7 and X7 series without showing dominance.
The side view retains a quaint character line that turns into a C-pillar. And the M550i, as before, is treated with bronze trim.
Overall, we liked the new look and the 5 Series still looks more agile and sportier than the fatter competitors.
Inside, visual changes are simple, with new contrast stitching as the most important enhancement.
However, driver assistance and infotainment systems have improved significantly with new cloud maps and a plethora of other options that try to distract you while potentially saving you the consequences of distractions.
2022 BMW 5 Series Specs
Smooth, powerful, and efficient, both the four-cylinder in the 530i and the six-cylinder in the 540i motivate this huge sedan with dignity.
For 2021, the 540i’s powertrain gets a little extra boost, taking care of the 48-volt hybrid system, which we haven’t tested yet.
Each is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that shifts intuitively and quickly, maximizing available power.
The 540i’s six cylinders are extremely smooth and powerful and produce a pleasant sound.
Apart from the M5 top-dog, which we reviewed separately, the M550i is the athlete of the lineup, with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 under the hood.
In our tests, the M550i ran through our acceleration running faster than the Audi S6 and Mercedes-AMG E53.
All 5-series models were competent handlers, but they lacked the driving enthusiasm we expected from BMW.

Steering feedback is light, and ride – even in the performance-oriented M550i – seems more tuned for comfort than pure driving pleasure.
The 530e plug-in uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor to produce 288 horsepower.
The last one we tested – a 2018 all-wheel-drive model with 248 horses – managed a fast 6.1 seconds to 60 mph.
The 530e will also offer electric-only driving for short distances, but the EPA has yet to release an estimate of the range.
The EPA hasn’t disclosed the fuel economy rating for the newly-hybridized 540i, but we expect to see a slight improvement over last year’s figures, which already offer impressive fuel efficiency.
Both the 540i and 530i performed well in our real-world tests, delivering 34 and 31 mpg, respectively, over our 200-mile highway route.
If that’s not enough to meet your fuel-sipping needs, the 530e plug-in hybrid managed 39 MPGe in the same test.
BMW 5 Series EV 2022 Engine
BMW’s next-generation 5 Series and X1 SUV models will be available with a fully electric powertrain, in addition to petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options.
It is all part of BMW’s plan to reduce CO2 emissions per vehicle by at least a third for the entire vehicle life cycle by 2030. The Bavarian automaker will introduce 25 hybrid and electric models by 2023.

We’ve tried the optional 20-way multi-contour front seat, which is adjustable in any way and provides hours of comfort.
Standard seats may not be too indulgent, but you can still customize them in 16 ways. BMW’s large luggage space is on par with what its competitors offer, with six carry-on cases at the back.
Reportedly, the cabin lacks cubbies and storage compartments.
To accommodate the battery pack, the 530e plug-in-hybrid has four cubic feet less luggage space than the non-hybrid model and takes up two less carry-on bags,

The large 12.3-inch high-resolution center screen comes standard on every 5 series. You can control it using the BMW iDrive rotary knob, tapping the screen, or saying various voice commands.
Also, if you’re paying for the BMW Gesture Control option, you can control the system by hand gestures, but we found this more gimmicky than useful.
All 5 series models are equipped with a configurable digital measuring screen to display various information to the driver.
Navigation, USB ports, Bluetooth audio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities are part of the technology suite, but you’ll have to pay extra for the SiriusXM satellite radio.
BMW 528i 2022
The 2015 BMW 5-Series is available in 4-cylinder 528i, 6-cylinder 535i or V8 550i models, as well as with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The 528i model includes a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that produces 241 hp and 258 ft-lb of torque, with peak torque reaching only 1,250 rpm.

Both through the Sport Package and the M Sport Package, sport suspension and larger wheels are available, an M Sport steering wheel and an aero kit. The 15-speaker sound system is available as an a-la-carte option, but those looking to splurge will appreciate the awesome sound of the premium 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen system.
All 5-Series models include dual-zone climate control, rain-detection wipers, power heated mirrors, xenon adaptive headlights, dynamic cruise control, navigation, and other add-ons. All but the base 528i get a few extra upgrades, to Dakota leather plus powerful multi-contour front seats, rear view camera, and parking distance control. The 10.25” multifunction display allows for different sensor placements depending on the driving dynamics mode used.
There was no 5Series station wagon in 2015, but there was the 5Series Gran Turismo (GT), a unique body style that is part station wagon and part hatchback, with slightly raised seats reminiscent of an SUV. According to the news BMW hasn’t announced the pricing for the 2022 BMW 5 Series but our estimates are the mid-range 540i continues to be the best value in the 5-series lineup, offering a fine balance between performance and comfort.
This model comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available.
The available Comfort Package seems like a wise addition, as it includes a heated front seat, power-operated trunk cover, and remote start.
